Flawless Cubic Form, High Artificial Sand Yield, and Maximum Fine Aggregate Solutions
In modern crusher (crushing-screening) plants and ore beneficiation lines, converting the hardest and most abrasive stones (basalt, granite, quartz, riverbed material/gravel, etc.) into high-quality sands of 0-5 mm size is one of the most challenging processes. Krismak Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher (VSI) series is designed to produce the market’s highest standard, zero-crack, and flawlessly cubic form aggregate by crushing these hard materials with high abrasiveness through the impact and “rock-on-rock” principle.
Thanks to high-speed vertical shaft technology, flexible feed combinations, and optimized internal wear parts, Krismak Vertical Shaft Crushers offer maximum efficiency to ready-mix concrete, asphalt, and micronized raw material producers at minimum wear parts cost.
How Does a Vertical Shaft Crusher Work?
Unlike traditional horizontal crushers, vertical shaft crushers operate with a combination of a rotor rotating at very high speed in a horizontal plane and a vertical main shaft.
Material fed from the upper feed tray falls into the central rotor. With the enormous centrifugal force created by the rotor, stones are propelled at an incredible speed of 250-300 km/h. These propelled stones are crushed by hitting the natural rock shelf (rock shelf / wedge armor) that accumulates on the inner wall of the crusher, or against metal anvils.
This unique mechanism ensures that the material breaks along its internal stress lines, that is, at its weakest points, producing high-strength, flawlessly cubic form artificial sand (crushed sand) with no micro-cracks.
Rotor Options in Krismak VSI Technology: Open Rotor and Closed Rotor
The hardness, abrasiveness rate, and feed size of the stone to be processed in your project determine the rotor design to be used. Krismak manufactures two different rotor configurations to offer the most suitable solution for your plant’s needs:
Closed Rotor Technology (Rock-on-Rock Principle)
Operating Structure: A design where the upper and lower discs and side walls are closed, and the material advances by forming its own rock shelf inside the rotor. Stones also contact each other inside the rotor.
Application Area: Delivers excellent results in processing high-hardness and highly abrasive materials such as basalt, granite, quartzite, and river gravel.
Advantages: Since stones are crushed both inside the rotor and by hitting the rock shelf on the outer wall, direct contact with metal wear parts is minimal. This radically reduces wear parts (diamond paddle, liner, etc.) costs even in the most abrasive rocks. It is the industry’s most economical solution for fine material and quality sand production.
Open Rotor Technology (Rock-on-Anvil Principle)
Operating Structure: A design with open side walls, where the material is directly caught by the rotor paddles (hammers) and propelled against the high-strength metal anvils in the crusher body.
Application Area: Preferred for crushing low-abrasiveness or medium-hardness materials such as limestone, calcite, and dolomite. It can also process slightly larger feed materials compared to the closed rotor.
Advantages: Since the stone directly hits the metal anvils, the reduction ratio (crushing power) is higher compared to the closed rotor. A higher rate of 0-5 mm sand and filler is obtained in a single pass. Offers maximum tonnage and high gradation performance in low-abrasiveness stones.
Flawless Advantages of Krismak Vertical Shaft Crushers
Flawless Cubic Product: Reduces the flat and elongated form ratio in aggregates to zero, producing ideal cubic material that saves cement and water in concrete plants.
Cascade Feed System: Thanks to adjustable gates in the upper feed chamber, some of the material enters the rotor while the rest flows into the crushing chamber from outside the rotor (cascade flow). This system increases the crusher’s capacity by up to 30% without straining the motor and offers precise gradation adjustment capability.
Premium Bearing and Smart Lubrication Unit: Advanced hydraulic lubrication station with automatic sensors and temperature and flow control, preventing heating and wear of the main shaft operating at high speed.
Easy Maintenance and Crane-Assisted Upper Body System: Hydraulic/mechanical upper cover opening system that can rotate 180 degrees and integrated maintenance crane for quick access to wear parts, rotor diamonds, and inner liners. Reduces service times in job site environments from hours to minutes.
Vibration Damping and Safety Sensors: Smart safety automation with Siemens/Schneider infrastructure that automatically stops the system in the event of unusual imbalance or excessive vibration in the machine.
Wide Range of Applications and Sectors
Krismak Vertical Shaft Impact Crushers are the solution especially for challenging projects where traditional crushers fall short due to wear costs:
Artificial Sand (Washed/Dry Sand) Plants: Artificial sand production at natural river sand standards for ready-mix concrete and asphalt producers.
Dam and Large Infrastructure Projects: Zero micro-crack mega aggregate production for high-strength mass concrete.
Industrial Mineral Industry: Bringing quartz, feldspar, calcite, and bauxite to the ideal size before micronized grinding for the glass, ceramics, and chemicals sectors.
Mining Processes: Reducing the feed size of mills (Ball Mill / Rod Mill) to reduce the energy consumption of grinding plants (pre-crushing).
Why Should You Choose Krismak Vertical Shaft Crushers?
Since vertical shaft crushers operate with high centrifugal force, a millimeter-level balancing error in their production can damage the entire machine. As Krismak, we manufacture zero-risk machines with our advanced computer-aided strength tests, dynamic rotor balancing units, and premium material selection.
Whether it is a Closed Rotor for hard basalt or an Open Rotor option for high-capacity limestone, Krismak ensures that your operation makes the most correct, lowest-cost, and highest-return (ROI) investment. We are by your side 24/7 in the global market with our uninterrupted after-sales original diamond and spare parts support.
